Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie
Musical Youth were the first Black group to appear on MTV with their hit single "Pass The Dutchie". The song was created as a cover version for "Pass The Kouchie" which was originally about the use of cannabis and meant "pass the cannabis pipe". This was addressing race and drugs.





Cornershop - Brimshaw of Asha

"Brimshaw of Asha" was banned after being accused of heavy advertising. They had record sleeves with "Cornershop" printed on them. They used the video to brainwash viewers into remembering their name so they bought there album.




Petshop Boys - Go West

Paul Greenhalgh said that the "Go West" video was "only an art form of commercial art." It was used to express free spirit and free mind.









True Faith - New Order
This video was completely meaningless but was great!












Godley & Creame - Cry
Godley and Creame had a brilliant idea of having all different people, they found walking down the street, appear in their video. They had them sit in a chair and have their heads all in the same position and lip sync. Once they finished the faces were mixed up to create different faces.









The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up
I love the video to this outrageous song because it's all done as a point of view shot. It's about drink, drugs and sex with a big twist at the end!!!

Meat Loaf - I Would Do Anything for Love
This used low key lighting to its advantage and created a depressing atmosphere. The mise en scene fitted the lyrics and really gave a sad vibe.

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares to You
This video touched alot of people. Sinead cries real tears in her video as she sang "All the flowers that you planted mama" because her mother had died not long before the video.





Queen - I Want To Break Free
The "I want to break free" video destroyed Queen in the USA. The members dressed in drag which was unacceptable at this time in the USA and so the sales of Queens records decreased significantly.

#10 Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Nirvana didnt like the video idea so took out alot of anger which fitted the scene perfectly. This was the big break for grunge music.

#9 Madonna - Vogue
Vogue featured Madonna looking glamourous and was about a huge dance craze that had a dance to fit the song.






#8 The Verve - Bittersweet symphony
This video was inspired by "Unfinished Symphony"

#7 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
Topped the US charts for 7weeks. Michael had to dance to step on certain pavment slabs as only some of them lit up.







#6 Robbie Williams - Rock DJ
Robbie had half of his video banned after he tore his skin off leaving his flesh on show. Many viewers found it very disturbing as women wearing roller skates started to eat the skin. VERY SICK BUT FANTASTIC WAY OF GETTING ATTENTION!

#5 Madonna - Like a preyer
Madonna was dropped from the Pepsi advert because people saw her "Like a Preyer" video as taking the "micky" out of Catholics.





#4 Queen - Bhohemion Rhapsidy
This video became hugely popular. The effects made it a big hit and kept it #1 in the charts for 9 weeks!

1104 drawings to create the great effect.







#2 Peter Gabrial - Sledgehammer
I love the idea that Peter Gabrial used in this video! No wonder it won 9 MTV awards!




#1 Michael Jackson - Thriller
Michael was inspired by "A warewolf in London". Over $700, 000 was spent on the video and was said to have the most make up used than in any other video. over 50million copies.
