Our Digipak Images

Using www.picnik.com we edited our pictures.

Front Cover:

I suggested using this picture because features Bob Dylan (as he is his album) and Edie (the main song is about her). Also, using this picture shows the love they shared but the colours show it has a darker side. I had found this picture in our video. I paused and print screened it. I had tried to edit this photo before but it was terrible so I asked Shelley to help me.

We used the "vignette" effect to make the edges darker so Edie and Bob are more in the frame. Also I think by doing this it darkened the whole picture showing the dark side to their love. We brightened up the picture using the "lomo-ish" effect. I think this effect made the picture look more professional. We then added the "cinemascope" effect which makes it alot more closed in as if someone is watching i.e Andy Warhole!

When looking through the video again to find the above picture at school, me and Shelley saw the part where Bob Dylan gets angry and throws his guitar. We dicided to print screen this part too. I took the image home and edited it. I used the tint effect on the guitar to keep the red theme that we used in other pictures. I then blacked out Bob and added the track list. I thought this would be the best image for the tracks once i erased Bob.

Again, we used the "cinemascope" effect to show Edie is being watched. I was playing around on picnik and clicked "focal effect b&w" This made the picture black & white apart of the ground, which turned into the sepia effect but it would't go across all the ground so when I got home I tried again. I couldn't get it to work so sent it to Shelley. She used the "tint" effect and it worked perfectly. We left the rest black and white and added the lyrics from our song "Let me paint a picture of how, how it was meant to be about now". This two effects make it look like the picture is being painted.

Shelley done this picture and we decided to use it. This picture is really nice because it shows the romance Edie and Bob shared and with the words "love never dies" it's abit ironic that Edie dies. The image is blured to make it look like a dream but keeps the focus on Edie and Bob. A heart effect effect is used on the right side to show that Edie and Bob were very much in love.

We chose this picture because it is a very clear and simple picture that showed the happiness Edie had but also a slight hint of confusion. She looks as if she is thinking about Bob. We used the "tint" effect on the scarf and used the red colour to match the guitar. Also the colour red represents love but also death, exackly what Edie experianced in her short life. Having the scarf around her head shows the love and death that surrounds her. Her hand holding the scarf is as if she is holding onto her love. It is her right hand which is actually in the position where her heart is, showing her love is extra strong.

Digipak Research

I have done some research into digipaks.
I looked at a few of Bob Dylan's albums and I was drawn to this picture immediately. I love the focus on the guitar and the passion in Bob's eyes. The colours are very simular to our video so it would be a good idea to think about using them colours too.

I liked this cover too because it's still so simple but this time focuses more on Bob than the guitar although it is still in the picture. The guitar being in both pictures shows the genre of the music and I think thats a great idea to use so people know what type of music will be on the album.

This digipak belongs to the famous group Oasis. Once again the focus is on the guitar showing the genre of the music, also second by the word "Acoustic". This is such a simple picture that has been brightened up a little to make it look fresh and give off a good vibe.
I found this digipak and fell inlove. I love the pictures. They have no meaning but automaticly draw attention with the colours.

Edie Photo Ideas

I have found a few photos of Edie that would be great to look at when using images for our advert and digipak.
I Love this picture (ignore the clothes on the left, I couldnt find the photo without them). This photos is nice because it features Andy, Edie and another man that we could replace with Bob Dylan. This is a very original photo and being done in the middle of a road shows how experimentive Andy is with his photography. Using this on our digipak would be a good idea to show the love triangle.

This photo shows how beautiful Edie is. She looks so pure. This would be really good to use but maybe having a photo this close of me (as I don't really look like Edie) it could give a completely different effect.

Having this picture on an album would draw attention quickly. The big smile gives a good vibe, however as our story ends badly, maybe this isn't the best photo to use because it gives the wrong impression.

Magazine Advert

Shelley made another advert that looked alot better than what I done (I'm TERRIBLE when it comes to being artistic =( ). I really liked it so decided that this should be our final piece. Shelley had focused on the theme of death, using the dying trees to represent this. Analysing this picture I can see that Shelley has selected a good picture of me with the scarf over my head because when people are morning they like to cover their faces.

She blured the edges of my body to blend it into the other picture of the tree and also blured the tree slightly so make it look as though it is windy. She used a tint effect to change the colour slightly to make it look like an old picture.
The colours are kept to a minium and work nicely. The green font goes well because green is a natural colour like the trees, keeping a part of life still there.

Magazine Advert

Adding the title in the middle in bold, red writing in a font we found on picnik, it looks like it's lit up showing the type of life Edie lived. Having it in the middle with the photos looking at it represents how her life revolved aroud fame.

When adding the information about the single, I wanted to carry on using red to match the lights. I used a different font because of the genre of the music and wanted to keep the "folk" feel to it. I experimented placing the words in lots of different places on the picture but it looked out of place so i extended the picture by placing a black boarder around it. I done this by using "Paint" on WindowsAccessories. I went back to using Picnik and redone my wording and it looked so much better.

For the quotes about what people think of our video we took what real people had actually said. However for the main quote at the bottom, Shelley had found it and told me about it so I used it because we found it very effective and meaningful. I used an italic font for this and an orange colour to match the photos. I placed them on the corner of the black & white photos because they don't stand out as well on the sepia photos but I didnt want to add anymore because it was looking over crowed.

I am happy with our advert but I think it would of looked alot better if we could understand how to use photoshop. It is a very hard peice of softwear and no matter how hard I tried to understand it I could not use it.

Photos For Advert

These are some photos we took for our advert. I recommended doing them against a wall because it gives it a more natural look rather than keep using a black background. We wanted them all looking into the centre because we want to have "Edie's Back!" in "lights". It it shows how her life revolves around fame.

We then edited them. I suggested using black & white and the sepia effect again to match our video. I edited the colours on http://www.picnik.com/ and also added a boost effect which brightens them up more.

We then went onto paint and i put them all next to eachother so I'm looking into the centre.
